The knee joint is the articulation between the thigh bone (femur) and leg bone (tibia). The knee cap articulates with the femur. Knee replacement involves resection of the articulating surfaces of these bones and replacing them with metal and plastic bearing surfaces.
 
The other common type of arthritis is called rheumatoid arthritis. In this disease, the immune system of the body reacts against the joints and musculoskeletal tissues. This causes inflammation of joints, and leads to wear and tear.
 
The treatment plan for arthritis helps patients to deal with the condition, though there is no known cure for it that could help reverse the condition. In early stages of arthritis, the following could be suggested towards treatment:
  • Modification of activities
  • Weight reduction
  • Use of stick / walking aid
  • Exercises
  • Physiotherapy
